Vitaminpillen bringen neben Nutzen auch Risiken

Vitaminpillen oder ähnliche Nährungsergänzungsmitteln sind beliebt und praktisch in jedem Haushalt vorhanden. Besonders in Mangelgebieten (Entwicklungsländer mit schlechter Versorgungslage) und Mangelzeiten (Winter) gehen viele davon aus, dass bei ihnen Vitaminpillen nützlich sind, um den täglichen Grundbedarf sicher zu decken. Doch ein Bericht des Fernsehmagazins Markt zeigt auf, dass Vitaminpillen neben dem typischen Nutzen auch Risiken bei der Einnahme haben können.

Auch Dr. Werner Bartens von der Süddeutschen Zeitung geht davon aus, dass Vitaminpillen nicht nur Nutzen haben und bringt Beispiele aus der Wissenschaft, wo Vitamintabellen sich sogar dem Verdacht von gesundheitlichen Schadwirkung aussetzen, wie folgendes Video aufzeigt:

Vitaminmangel ist aber hierzulande kaum zu befürchten, wenn man eine gesunde und abwechslungsreiche Ernährung praktiziert. Der oben verlinkte Markt-Bericht weist auch darauf hin, dass in vielen Fällen hierzulande Lebensmittel mit zusätzlichen Vitaminen aufgewertet werden. Trotzdem kaufen ein Drittel der Deutschen regelmäßig Vitaminprodukte oder Nahrungsergänzungsmittel, ohne sich ausreichend klar über den Nutzen und evtl. Risiken zu informieren.

Über den Nutzen und die Risiken von Vitaminpräparaten gibt es eine Reihe von wissenschaftlichen Studien, die aber sehr umstritten sind. Klar ist, dass der Mangel an bestimmten Vitaminen gesundheitliche Probleme hervorrufen kann. Ob es aber sinnvoll ist, eine Überzufuhr an Vitaminen zu planen, um einem möglichen Mangel zuvorzukommen, wird aus medizinischer Sicht bezweifelt. Auch hier ist die Methode „Viel hilft Viel!“ nicht zielführend.

Als Verbraucher sollte man nicht den Mangel und seine Bekämpfung zu sehr in den Vordergrund schieben, sondern insgesamt auf eine ausgewogene Ernährung und tägliche Bewegung achten. Ausgewogen ist die Ernährung dann, wenn sie die Vielfalt des Lebensmittelangebots nutzt, also z.B. jahreszeitliche Schwerpunkte beim Obst- und Gemüseverkauf gezielt verwendet, um den täglichen Speiseplan abwechslungsreich zu gestalten. Dann ist ein Vitaminmangel sehr unwahrscheinlich und auf Vitaminpillen oder ähnliche Nahrungsergänzungsmittel kann verzichtet werden.
